The Positive QualityTM Program promotes solar PV module brands that are proven to consistently meet a high standard of manufacturing quality.
The Solar Council has introduced the Positive QualityTM benchmark to:
- provide consumers with peace of mind in the components they buy ,
- provide solar installers with confidence in the reliability of products they install,
- provide installers and distributors with greater confidence in the long-term sustainability of their business.
The Australian Solar Council has over 50 years experience in solar technologies and is committed to providing independent and bias-free third-party inspections.
How Does the PQ Program Work?
The Positive Quality program is a due diligence program between manufacturers and customers, including a rigorous factory inspection which aims to raise the quality standard in Australia.
The inspection includes three key steps:
Step 1: Certification check. The factory needs to provide genuine certificates and test reports showing that all the products imported to Australia are fully complied with IEC and Australian standards. This urge the manufacturers to renew the certification as per required and reflect any important changes in the standards.
Step 2: Factory inspection. A team of experienced auditors will be sent to the factory and conduct a 60-point check. This process has been established for more than 6 years and has been implemented on over 30 PV manufacturers. The inspection focus on the bill of material, the standard operation procedure, and quality control measures in the company, which are crucial to the ability to stably produce high quality products. Positive result of this inspection will build confidence for customers to believe that the products are in consistent high quality as certified by accredited laboratories.
Step 3: Product quality check. In this step, the quality of the products are further ensured by randomly measure all the necessary characteristics including appearance, IV, EL, Hi-Pot, and Leakage current. We will also make sure the manufacturers are testing all their products in a genuine way and the test results they provide are trustful.
We believe, passing this rigorous inspection shows a good-practice manufacturing process and the quality of the products should be consistent with the certified sample. The Australian Solar Council supports quality manufacturers who can pass this test, and urge the industry not to import any low quality products which will damage the benefit of your customers, and put your brand and the reputation of the industry on risk.
What is the benefit of buying PQ modules?
Solar modules can have severe defects that are not visible from the appearance of the products. Many products sold in Australia that claimed to be compliant with IEC and Australian standards are actually not, due to poor quality control during the production or substitution to low quality materials.
The PQ Program helps customers to identify quality brands that are consistently producing modules at the quality standard of the accreditation certificates.
How to recognize PQ modules?
PQ approved modules can be identified by entering the barcode number into the PQ Module Search page. Ask us about our smartphone barcode scanner app.
How to join the program?
We welcome quality manufacturers and Australian companies with their own module brands to participate in the program to associate your brand with quality. For more details, please contact the program manager at firstname.lastname@example.org
